I've been doing a lot of work with my
0:02
counselor over the past couple of years
0:04
about different parts of
0:06
myself and so there's one part of myself
0:08
when I'm having a good day and my
0:09
symptoms are are fairly lowkey and I
0:12
kind of have this sense of being you
0:14
know I'm a content creator and I'm going
0:16
to achieve stuff in the world and it's
0:17
like my old self before I got ill going
0:19
to quite focused on achievement and
0:21
getting on in the world you know and
0:23
then there's this other part of myself
0:24
that's to be honest completely
0:26
overwhelmed by this debilitating illness
0:29
that I've been going through and I
0:31
sometimes feel the image I have is like
0:33
you know a baby that's been left in the
0:34
woods you know it's like it's just
0:36
crying and no one's hearing and it
0:38
doesn't it's just desperate you know
0:39
this horrible sense of desperation that
0:41
can come with illness and there's that's
0:43
just you know one kind of polarity
0:44
between two different parts of myself
0:46
but it can be really interesting and
0:48
really beneficial to create a dialogue
0:51
between those two parts and any other
0:53
parts you identify but you know for now
0:54
let's just talk about the really strong
0:57
positive optimistic part and then the
0:59
kind of really uh vulnerable fragile
1:02
really not able to do much for itself
1:05
part because it's suffering all these
1:07
symptoms are kind of
1:09
overwhelming and to create this kind of
1:11
healthy dialogue between the two you
1:13
know so the the more positive call them
1:16
I don't know I'm called Robin so Robin a
1:18
and Robin B is one way to refer to them
1:20
some people give an illness sorry some
1:23
people give a name to their illness and
1:24
that's an interesting Avenue that I may
1:27
go down myself but that's on a side
1:29
right so there's this parts that I
1:30
identify so the strong positive
1:32
optimistic part Robin a needs to
1:35
reassure this kind of vulnerable fragile
1:37
part that's frightened and overwhelmed
1:38
it's like I've got your back you know
1:40
it's like I'm going to do what I can
1:41
when I've when I've got the energy when
1:43
my symptoms aren't too um
1:45
intrusive I'm going to take care of you
1:47
I'm going to you know make sure that our
1:49
environment so it's kind of like the we
1:50
of the parts of ourselves so we're not
1:53
in this alone right so that Robin B The
1:55
Fragile part is not in this alone so
1:57
Robin a we are going to like make sure
1:59
our environment is as conducive as
2:01
possible you know we're going to get the
2:04
help that we can you build a support
2:06
network as best as we're
2:08
able and we're going to do various
2:10
practices that are going to help we're
2:11
going to try and make good choices and
2:13
just re reassure that part you know that
2:16
someone has got their back this is kind
2:18
of about advocacy and I'm about about to
2:19
make another video on advocacy but it's
2:21
a really important topic so we're we
2:23
don't always have external advocacy so
2:25
we we need to learn to advocate for
2:27
ourselves and in this model for you know
2:29
Robin a the stronger part to advocate
2:31
for Robin be the weak and fragile part
2:33
you know but also you know Robin be
2:36
needs to communicate his needs to Robin
2:38
a so it's like Robin a might be off
2:40
trying to achieve some goal in the world
2:42
you know trying to build a business or I
2:44
don't know whatever it is the latest
2:46
craze that I'm
2:48
on you know Robin be needs to say look
2:50
hey I need rest you know I need quiet I
2:53
need peace you know we can't just go off
2:56
gallivanting all the time we got to like
2:58
you know we got to kind of take care of
3:00
the needs of the more vulnerable part of
3:01
oursel yeah so creating this kind of
3:03
flow this kind of uh connection exchange
3:08
relationship within
3:09
ourselves can be a really important part
3:12
of the process either of recovery if
3:15
that's where our illness is going or at
3:17
least acceptance of how things are and
3:19
optimizing the quality of life within
3:21
the constraints that we have thanks for
