Somehow I found myself in Carpinteria, California, USA this morning, having spent the last three days working intensively on recording a Python course for LinkedIn Learning.
It has been an amazing experience!
Having spent the last few months preparing materials and collaborating remotely with my wonderful producer, Dennis Meyer, I met him on the LinkedIn Learning campus (what a campus!), and after breakfast was shown the booth where I would spend the next three days, with Dennis sitting in a booth opposite monitoring my work and giving continuous feedback as we prepared and recorded each of the 30 or so videos comprising the course.
It will be a couple of months before the course is ready to be released in the LinkedIn Learning library, which is a vast collection of courses on many different topics, most of which relate to business and technical skills. If you have heard of Lynda.com, this is now part of LinkedIn Learning, which is a surprisingly large operation. On the campus there are about 6 buildings, and at any time there could be 30 or 40 authors working on courses. There is also live action filming and the studios were very impressive, although unfortunately I didn’t think to take any photos.
All in all it has been a wonderful experience, and as as result of expert guidance from Dennis, my video tutorial making skills have greatly improved. I will probably be back later this year to make another (or even more) course, and I will also begin giving serious thought to the kinds of courses there is a need for in terms learning Python programming and GCSE/A Level Computer Science. I want to go ahead and make some great courses which will really help and inspire people, so if there is a topic you would like to see covered, please get in touch and let me know.
